Karnatala Legislative Assembly Elections 2018
An election will be conducted in the state of Karnataka on 12th May 2018 across all 224 constituencies of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly. The vote counting and release of result will happen on 15th May 2018. The two opposition parties, Bharatiya Janata Party (43 seats) and Janta Dal (S) (29 seats), along with their associates, will occur on the incumbent Indian National Congress of 120 seats, whereas Aam Aadmi Party will have its debut in the state. The Bahujan Samaj Party done an alliance with the JD(S) and confirmed to contest twenty of the 224 seats.
The tenure of Karnataka assembly ceases on May 28th, 2018.
The Times of India revealed in late February 2018 that the state had some electronic voting devices than the lowest mandated need to be saved going into elections for any state assembly. The report claimed that only twenty per cent or 11,398 EVMs were in work against the need of 56,994 machines, one each for a polling booth. Bharat Electronics Ltd., which offers eighty percent of the machines start supplying during this time. The DEO, Bangalore region stated that a “vulnerability mapping exercise” would be held to make sure “free and fair polls”. About 550 Sector teams, each headed by a sector magistrate, a police officer over the rank of an Assistant sub-inspector and a videographer, were set, one for every fifteen of the 8,274 polling stations in the said region.
The schedule of the poll was declared by the Election Commission of India on 27th March 2018. It declared that polling would be conducted in a single phase on 12th May and that results would be released on 15th May. It also announced that the provisions of the Model Code of Conduct came into force with instant effect.
