The State Election Commission of Gujarat state is the extreme body in the state that monitors the process of different kinds of 17th lok sabha elections to the state assembly, municipal councils & corporations, and the gram panchayats too. The Election Commission of Gujarat also manages the entire process of 543 seats election in the state. The Gujarat State Election Commission was formed under Article 243K of the Indian Constitution in the month of September 1993.
According to the 73rd and 74th amendment to the Indian Constitution, part IX & IXA were introduced under which the State Election Commission included the provisions in respect to panchayats and Municipal bodies respectively.

Doctor Varesh Sinha is the State Election Commissioner of the Gujarat state. A retired Indian Administrative Service officer of the year 1977 batch of Gujarat cadre, Dr. Sinha has earlier rolled different vital posts at the state level in Gujrata as Chief Secretary of the state, Addl. Chief Secretary, Home & Labour and Employment, Additional Chief Secretary of Finance, Principal Secy. of Education. He has too functioned in Agri-Business, Energy, Urban, Panchayat, Tourism, Education, Home, Finance, Labour and so on.
Dr. Sinha is a Science graduate and made his masters in Mathematical Statistics. He is also an Master of Business Administration and has attained a doctorate Ph.D. degree in statistics.
