With forty three contestants went horns for the similar seat in the 2009 elections, whereas thirty five candidates crossed swords in the 2004 polling as per statistics of Election Commission of India.

Generally maximum number of nominations filed in Chennai South with the present number of candidates counting to forty two.

The Indian Election Commission is to own 1 main control unit and 3 EVMs for every polling stations in Chennai South constituency.

With 2 of the EVMs have sixteen candidates, 1 EVM would contain ten candidates and the None of the Above Option NOTA.

Chennai South has forwarded political icons such as ex Union Finance Minister T T Krishnamachari, DMK founder and ex Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C N Annadurai and ex-President R Venkataraman to the Lok Sabha.

The ex-UM & DMK chief T R Baalu has gain this seat for 4 consecutive terms between 1996 & 2004 election, his party colleague Murasoli Maran acheived the seat twice in 1967 & 1971.

LIkewise in 1977 and 1980 Former President Venkataraman won the seat two times with each from Congress & Congress Indira respectively whereas the actress and danseuse Vyjayanthimala Bali triumphed in 1984 & 1989.

From the fifteen times since 1952, the Chennai South constituency gone for election, DMK achieved the seat 8 times, Congress 4, AIADMK 2 and Congress Indira 1.
